 General Questions

  • A: The Fortified™ Program, developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), is a set of construction and roofing standards designed to protect homes and businesses from severe weather, including hurricanes, high winds, and hail. There are three levels of Fortified certification:

    • Fortified Roof™ – Focuses on strengthening your roof to prevent damage.

    • Fortified Silver™ – Includes roof protection plus additional measures like reinforced doors and windows.

    • Fortified Gold™ – The highest level, which includes full structural reinforcement for maximum protection.

  • A: Fortified homes are built or upgraded to withstand extreme weather, while standard homes are often vulnerable to wind and storm damage. Key differences include:

    • Stronger roofing materials and installation to prevent wind uplift.

    • Reinforced doors and windows to protect against flying debris.

    • Improved anchoring and connections to keep the home intact during storms.

  • A: You can upgrade your existing home to meet Fortified standards. In fact, many homeowners choose to get Fortified Roof™ certification when replacing their roof, as it’s one of the most cost-effective ways to strengthen their home.

 Benefits & Insurance Savings
